Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 14, 2026
RareBill reads your bills entirely on your iPhone. There is no account, no sign-up, and no server of ours that holds anything about you or your money. This policy explains the small amount of data the app touches and why.
The short version: your camera feed, your serial numbers, and your collection never leave your device except through your own private iCloud, which we cannot read. We have no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no account system. The app makes exactly one network request, and it is a download.
1. Who we are
RareBill is an independent iOS app. You can reach us any time at support@rarebill.app.
2. Your camera — on your device only
When you point RareBill at a bill, the camera feed is processed on your iPhone using Apple's Vision framework to read the serial number, series and denomination printed on the note.
- This happens 100% on your device. The video feed is never recorded, never uploaded, and never received by us or anyone else.
- RareBill performs no facial recognition, no identity matching, and no biometric processing of any kind. It is looking at printed characters on a banknote.
- If you save a bill to your collection, the still image of that note is stored locally on your device, in the app's own storage. You can delete it at any time by removing the bill, or by deleting the app.
- Camera access can be revoked at any time in iOS Settings. The app still works — you can type serial numbers in by hand.
3. Your collection and settings
The bills you keep, their serial numbers, and your app settings are stored locally on your device using Apple's on-device storage. We do not operate a server that holds your collection, and we cannot see it.
4. iCloud sync
If iCloud is available on your device, your collection syncs through your own private iCloud (CloudKit) database, under your Apple ID. Apple handles that storage under your iCloud terms. We do not operate it and we cannot read it. Signing out of iCloud, or turning iCloud off for RareBill in iOS Settings, stops the sync; the copy on your device stays.
5. The one network request
RareBill periodically downloads an updated value-estimate table from
https://rarebill.app/data/value_guide.json so the ranges it shows stay current without
needing an App Store update. This is a plain file download.
- It is a one-way request. Nothing about you, your bills, your serial numbers, or your collection is sent with it, and there is nothing in the app that transmits that information anywhere.
- Like any web request, our hosting provider (Cloudflare) receives the standard connection information needed to serve a file — including your IP address — and may retain it briefly in security logs. We do not use it to identify you and we do not combine it with anything else.
- The star print-run database ships inside the app. Looking up your note does not touch the network.
6. Links to other sites
When you tap through to see what similar notes are currently listed for, RareBill opens a search on eBay in your browser. From that point you are on eBay's site, under eBay's privacy policy, not ours. We do not have an affiliate arrangement with eBay, we are not paid for those taps, and we receive nothing back from them.
7. Purchases
The subscription and the one-time purchase are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store (StoreKit). We never see or receive your payment details — Apple processes payment, billing, cancellation and refunds. Your purchase status is reflected on your device by Apple's system, and by Apple's servers when you restore purchases.
8. Analytics, tracking, and advertising
RareBill contains no analytics SDK, no advertising, and no cross-app tracking. We do not build a profile of you. We do not sell or share personal information, because we do not have any. We do not ask for App Tracking Transparency permission because there is nothing to track.
9. Crash diagnostics
iOS may collect aggregate, on-device performance and crash information via Apple's own systems, which you control in Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements. If we add a crash-reporting service in a future version, we will say so here and in the App Store privacy label before that version ships.
10. Children
RareBill is a reference tool for collectors and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the app requires no account and sends no personal data to us, there is nothing for us to collect.
11. Your rights and choices
Because your data lives on your device, you are in direct control of it:
- Access: everything the app knows is visible in the app.
- Deletion: removing a bill deletes it and its photo from your device; if iCloud sync is on, the deletion propagates through your own iCloud account. Deleting the app removes the local copy entirely.
- Permissions: camera access can be revoked at any time in iOS Settings.
12. For users in the EU / UK (GDPR)
Your camera feed, serial numbers and collection are processed on your device and never transmitted to us, so there is no personal data of that kind for us to control. For the limited data that does reach our infrastructure, we act as the controller:
- Server logs from the value-table download are processed on the basis of our legitimate interest in operating and securing the service. Cloudflare acts as our processor.
- Purchases are processed by Apple under your agreement with Apple.
You have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction and objection. Because the data is on your device, most of these are satisfied directly in the app; for anything else, contact support@rarebill.app.
13. For users in California (CCPA/CPRA)
We do not sell or share your personal information, and we do not use it for cross-context behavioural advertising. As described above, the app collects no personal information on a server.
14. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, note it in the app. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
