Terms of Use & End-User License Agreement
Last updated: August 14, 2026
These terms govern your use of the RareBill iOS app and this website. By using RareBill you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.
The two things that matter most: RareBill is a reference tool for collectors. It does not appraise your money, and it does not tell you whether a note is genuine. Anything it shows you about value is an estimate of what similar notes have sold for — not an offer, not an appraisal, and not financial advice.

1. Acceptance and eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use RareBill, and old enough to form a binding contract where you live. If you use the app on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you're authorised to accept these terms for it.
2. License
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use RareBill on Apple devices you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Terms of Service. You may not copy, modify, reverse-engineer, resell or redistribute the app, or extract its bundled databases for redistribution as a dataset or competing product.
This licence is between you and us, not Apple. Apple has no obligation to provide support for the app. If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple may refund the purchase price; to the extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
3. What RareBill tells you — and what it doesn't
RareBill reads the serial number, series and denomination printed on a US banknote and tells you two things it can determine with certainty from the serial alone:
- whether the note is a star note (its serial ends in a star), and
- whether the serial matches one of the fancy-serial patterns collectors recognise.
Those two answers are arithmetic, and they are free and unlimited. Everything else the app shows — print-run figures, rarity framing, value ranges — is reference information assembled from public sources, and is subject to the limits below.
RareBill reads a bill using your device's camera. Optical character recognition is not perfect, particularly on worn, folded, marked or poorly lit notes. Always check the reading against the note in your hand before acting on it. You can correct or enter any serial by hand.
4. No authentication or counterfeit detection
RareBill does not determine whether a banknote is genuine, and makes no claim about authenticity, security features, or counterfeit status. It is not a currency validator, not a counterfeit-detection device, and must not be relied on as one. It also does not grade a note's physical condition; where the app asks about condition, you are telling it, not the other way round.
If you suspect a note is counterfeit, contact your bank, local law enforcement, or the United States Secret Service.
5. Value estimates are not appraisals
Value ranges in RareBill are estimates, derived from published collector price guides and observed asking prices for comparable notes. They are provided for general information only.
- They are not appraisals. We are not licensed appraisers and no appraisal relationship is created by your use of the app.
- They are not offers. Neither we nor anyone else is offering to buy your note at any price shown.
- They are not financial or investment advice. Paper money is a collectible, its market is thin and volatile, and what a note actually sells for depends on its condition, on grading, on fees, and on who happens to want it that week.
- An estimate may be wrong, in either direction. Do not buy, sell, hold or insure anything solely on the strength of a number in this app. For anything of significant value, get a professional opinion — for example from a PMG- or PCGS-graded submission, or a reputable dealer.
6. Data sources and independence
Star-note print-run figures are compiled from the public monthly production reports published by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. Those reports are US Government works and are used as published; we do not alter the figures. Every row shipped in the app is cross-checked against the Bureau's own quantity columns, but the underlying reports occasionally contain their own errors, and coverage is limited to the reports that have been published. The absence of a matching print run is not evidence of anything.
RareBill is an independent app. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by or connected to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, the United States Department of the Treasury, the Federal Reserve, eBay, PMG, PCGS, or any other organisation named in the app or on this site. All trademarks belong to their respective owners.
7. Subscriptions, the one-time purchase & "lifetime"
RareBill offers an optional "Pro" upgrade. All purchases are made through the Apple App Store and are subject to Apple's terms.
- Auto-renewing subscriptions (weekly and yearly) are billed to your Apple ID and renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel at any time in your Apple ID settings. Prices are shown in the app before you buy.
- Free trial: where offered, any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited when you purchase a subscription.
- One-time ("lifetime") purchase: a single payment that unlocks Pro features for the lifetime of the RareBill app — there is no recurring charge. "Lifetime" refers to the life of the app; it is not a guarantee that the app, any specific feature, or any third-party service it relies on will remain available indefinitely.
- Free tier: scanning, star-note detection and fancy-serial verdicts are free and unlimited, and we intend to keep them that way. We may change which other features are free or Pro over time.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under Apple's policies; we cannot directly issue refunds for App Store purchases.
8. Acceptable use
Don't use RareBill to break the law, to misrepresent what a note is or what it's worth when selling it, to scrape or bulk-extract its bundled data, or to interfere with the app or our infrastructure. Don't use it to defraud anyone.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
RareBill is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free, that OCR readings will be correct, or that any figure or estimate it shows is accurate or current. Some jurisdictions don't allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so parts of this may not apply to you.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any lost profits, lost value, or losses arising from a decision to buy, sell, keep, spend or insure a banknote made in reliance on the app. Our total liability for any claim relating to RareBill is limited to the amount you paid us for it in the twelve months before the claim, or US $50, whichever is greater.
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims arising out of your misuse of the app or your violation of these terms or of any law or third-party right.
12. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains what the app does with data. In short: bills are read on your device, and we don't receive them.
13. Changes & termination
We may update these terms; material changes will be reflected in the date at the top of this page. We may modify, suspend or discontinue the app or any feature at any time. You may stop using the app at any time by deleting it.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which the developer resides, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where your local consumer-protection law provides otherwise. Nothing here limits any non-waivable statutory rights you have as a consumer.
