Email support@rarebill.app and you'll get a reply from the person who wrote the app. If something's wrong with a reading, include the serial number and what the app said — that's usually enough to find the bug.
The app read my bill wrong
Fill the frame with the front of the note, get as much even light on it as you can, and hold it flat — folds across the serial are the usual culprit. If it still won't read, tap Enter it by hand and type the serial. The verdict is identical either way; typing it just skips the camera.
It didn't pick up the denomination
That's expected more often than we'd like. The large ornate "ONE DOLLAR" script defeats text recognition far more than the serial does, so when the serial and series have been read and the denomination hasn't, the app simply asks you which bill it is. The star and fancy-serial verdict never depends on the denomination.
What is a star note?
When a note is spoiled during printing, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing prints a replacement whose serial number ends in a star (★) instead of a letter. They're printed in much smaller quantities — roughly one note in a hundred — and some print runs are far smaller than others, which is what makes them collectable.
Where do the print-run numbers come from?
The Bureau of Engraving and Printing publishes a monthly production report listing the exact serial ranges printed for each series, denomination and district. RareBill ships those figures — 24 years of them — inside the app, so looking up your note doesn't need a network connection. Every row is cross-checked against the Bureau's own quantity columns before it ships.
Is the value estimate what my bill is worth?
No — it's a range of what comparable notes have been listed and sold for, drawn from published collector guides. It isn't an appraisal, an offer, or financial advice, and it can be wrong in either direction. Condition matters enormously and only you can see the note. For anything that looks genuinely valuable, get a professional opinion before you act.
Can RareBill tell me if a bill is counterfeit?
No, and it never claims to. RareBill reads the serial number printed on a note; it does not check security features and cannot judge authenticity. If you suspect a note is counterfeit, contact your bank, local law enforcement, or the US Secret Service.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are billed by Apple, so they're cancelled through Apple: open the Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions, then RareBill. Cancelling at least 24 hours before the period ends stops the next charge. Refunds are handled by Apple — we can't issue them directly, but reportaproblem.apple.com is the place to ask.
I paid but Pro isn't unlocked
Open the paywall and tap Restore purchases, and make sure you're signed into the same Apple ID you bought it with. If it still doesn't unlock, email us with the date of purchase and we'll sort it out.
Does my collection sync between devices?
Yes, through your own private iCloud account, as long as you're signed into the same Apple ID and iCloud is enabled for RareBill in iOS Settings. We never see the contents — it's your iCloud, not our server.
Do I have to pay to check a bill?
No. Scanning and the star / fancy-serial verdict are free, unlimited, and not metered in any way. Pro adds the research layer — print-run rarity, value ranges, an unlimited collection and stack mode.
